Different Types of Doors for Brisbane and Gold Coast Homes

Types of Doors for Brisbane and Gold Coast Homes

Both Brisbane and the Gold Coast enjoy beautiful subtropical weather for most of the year. To make the most of this great climate, you’ll want to install the right doors in your home. There are different types of doors you can choose from to let in natural light and open up your home to a cool afternoon breeze.

Along with a quality range of building materials, we supply a variety of doors to enhance homes in SE Qld. If you’re planning to build or renovate, or you just want to upgrade your current doors, let’s look at some of the top picks to help you choose the right doors for you and your home.

Centre Opening Stacker Doors

This is a very popular choice as Centre Opening Stacker Doors provide a lot of flexibility.

These doors have six glass panels and two fixed panels on either end. The four sliding glass panels in the middle allow you to open the doors part of the way or all of the way. When fully open, two sliding panels on each side stack with the fixed panel, creating a very spacious opening with a maximum width of 6246mm.

Centre Opening Stacker Doors provide a broad opening to allow the summer breeze in to cool your home. The wide opening also makes it easy to move furniture to and from a balcony or veranda. With so much stunning glass, you will enhance any home’s appearance with these doors installed. These are expansive doors that don’t consume any interior space.

Centre Opening Sliding Doors

Centre Opening Sliding Doors are comprised of  one fixed panel on either end, with two sliding panels in the middle of the door with a maximum width of 5384mm. One sliding panel will slide each way leaving the opening in the middle.

This style of door allows in plenty of natural light and air for a bright and breezy interior. When fully opened, the space is generous enough to give any room that outdoorsy feel. Glass panelling with aluminium framing will suit the design and decor of any Brisbane or Gold Coast home.

Bifold Doors

Bifold Doors are perfect for those indoor-outdoor living spaces. Working on the concertina principle and operating on hinges, each panel of the door folds in, which leaves almost the entire door area open. You can fold back just one panel, two panels or open them all the way.

While generally a little pricier than other glass doors, they are the ultimate doors for making the most of access to outdoor spaces. Bifold Doors achieve the perfect balance, bringing the outdoors in and vice versa.

The folded panels don’t take up much space, and having Bifold Doors opening onto a deck from a kitchen allows you to cook indoors and dine outdoors in the warmer months.

Hinged Doors

Hinged Doors have one or two glass panels, with twin panelled doors known as French Doors. If there is no wall or furniture impeding the door, doors can swing inwards or outwards to 180 degrees.

This style of door works well in areas where there is not enough wall space to install any of the previous doors mentioned, or for homeowners looking for glass doors on a budget.

Traditionally, Hinged Doors were commonly made from wood panelling but contemporary and modern designs have led to a demand for Hinged Doors with glass panels. These doors work well in any style of home and, you can fit a wide range of locks for added security.

At A&D Discount Building Supplies, we can make and supply Hinged Doors to your exact specifications.

Standard Sliding Doors

The Standard Sliding Door is one of the most common doors you’ll see in homes in SE Qld. They feature one fixed glass panel and one sliding glass panel. With a maximum width of 2710mm, the sliding panel can either be on the right or left, depending on your requirements.

These doors are a cheaper alternative to Centre Opening Stacker Doors and Bifold Doors, yet are large enough to let in lots of natural light and a nice breeze. They are popular for a variety of rooms, including living rooms, bedrooms and kitchens and are also a top choice for balcony and patio doors.  They are also often used in sheds that don’t require drive in access through a roller door.  Being a sliding door, they also don’t take up valuable space.

Stacker Doors

Regular Stacker Doors are a simplified version of Centre Opening Stacker Doors. Instead of two fixed panels on either end and four sliding glass panels in the centre, Stacker Doors are more like Standard Sliding Doors, but with two sliding panels on one side and one fixed panel.

Again, the panels stack over the fixed panel, allowing homeowners to open the door partially or fully without consuming interior space. With a maximum width of 4038mm, the opening is much larger than a Standard Sliding Door. The sliding glass panels can either open from the left or the right, depending on your needs.

As a more budget-friendly version of Stacker Door, residents can still enjoy the indoor-outdoor benefits that a Stacker Door provides, making them ideal for opening onto patios, decks, verandas and balconies.
